She is dead. Eaten by a fat, obnoxious spider. Which we promptly killed - yeah, I know, that's nature's law, eat and get eaten and all that crap. Nevertheless, here in Alabama we exact capital punishment on those who kill our family. It took no time to condemn that contemptible creature to it's rightful end.
I am really sad - this morning when I checked on her whilst the coffee was getting ready, she sat on a branch and seemed to enjoy the first rays of the sun. She even lifted her head a little bit, which she occasionally did when we stepped in her field of view.
Now, her lifeless shell twists in the wind, entangled in a spiderweb, sucked out by the now deceased critter. What a shame. This is a sad day.

Mantis' Mantra
We discovered that a Praying Mantis has chosen one of the plants in front of our living room windows as her domicile.
Usually, I do not like insects that much - too crawly, too many legs, too yucky.
But in this case, I was fascinated by this marvelous creature. Having photography as my main hobby, it was immediately clear to me that I had to document her life.
And that's about it. I will take pictures of her, write some stories that connect our lifes, and have fun in doing that.
This blog is in no way meant to be scientific, or even educational - although I will certainly share the knowledge that I gain, through own observation, or by reading literature about this species.
Also, I might come up with some tips and tricks how to photograph these critters - this is not easy at all and requires probably more trial and error than I can imagine right now.
Anyway, this should be a fun project and if you have some Mantis-stories to share, or some pictures of your own, please let me know.
